Beach Weddings · South Padre Island

An island wedding worth flying everyone in for.

Ceremony in the private courtyard, reception by the heated pool, suites for every guest in the wedding party, and the Gulf of Mexico a two-minute walk away. One property. One weekend. One unforgettable wedding.

Why couples pick Athena Ares.

Most South Padre Island wedding venues hand you a ballroom and ship your guests to a hotel five miles away. Athena Ares does the opposite — your wedding party sleeps in six private 2-bedroom suites around the same courtyard you're getting married in. Ceremony in the morning, brunch by the pool, sunset photos on the beach two minutes away, and a reception that doesn't have to end at 10 PM because nobody is driving anywhere.

What it includes

What a wedding weekend at Athena Ares looks like.

We're not a banquet hall — we're a private property that's been the backdrop for everything from intimate vow renewals to 75-person ceremonies. You bring your own vendors (or pick from our local partners list); we provide the space, the lodging, and 6,564 square feet of "yes, you can do that here."

  • Sleeps up to 36 guests across 6 private suites — keep the wedding party together
  • Private interior courtyard with heated pool and hot tub — ceremony, cocktail hour, or reception backdrop
  • Poolside outdoor kitchen with gas grill — perfect for catered BBQs or rehearsal dinners
  • Six fully-equipped kitchens — caterer prep space without renting extra equipment
  • Two-minute walk to the Gulf of Mexico for first-look and sunset photos
  • Free on-site parking — no shuttling guests from a hotel
  • Pet-friendly with prior approval (yes, the dog can be ring bearer)

The details

Capacity, layout, and the practical details.

Most wedding inquiries we get are 25–75 person ceremonies with the wedding party staying onsite. Larger receptions (up to ~100 with proper rentals) are possible with full-property buyout and prior coordination — we'll walk you through what fits.

Local network

Local partners we've worked with.

We don't take vendor commissions — these are people we've worked with multiple times who consistently deliver. We'll share the full list when you inquire.

  • Photographers and videographers familiar with the property
  • Florists who do island weddings (and know which flowers survive Gulf humidity)
  • Caterers from intimate dinner parties to full plated receptions
  • Coordinators and day-of planners — both full-service and "month-of" packages
  • DJs, live bands, and acoustic guitarists for ceremony music
  • Officiants, including non-denominational and bilingual

Logistics

Timing, budget, and how to book.

Wedding bookings are full-property buyouts only and require a 3-night minimum (Friday check-in / Sunday afternoon check-out is the most common). A small event fee applies on top of the lodging rate, and we'll send you a simple event addendum during inquiry. Peak wedding season is March–June and September–November; summer weddings are popular but warmer; winter weddings are a quiet, beautiful, and underbooked secret.

Frequently asked

The questions we get the most.

Can we get married in the courtyard?

Yes — the courtyard is the most popular ceremony spot. Up to about 60 chairs fit comfortably with an arch and aisle. Larger ceremonies are usually held on the beach two minutes away (no permit needed for parties under ~50 in most cases — we'll check current rules).

What's the maximum reception size?

Around 75 with a seated dinner inside the suites and courtyard, or up to ~100 for a cocktail-style reception with proper rentals. Tell us what you're picturing during inquiry and we'll tell you honestly whether it fits.

Do you provide tables, chairs, linens, or a dance floor?

We provide the space and the lodging. Tables, chairs, linens, dance floors, and tents are arranged through a local rental company — we can refer you, and they deliver and set up onsite.

Are amplified music and outdoor speakers allowed?

Yes, until 10 PM out of respect for neighbors. Many couples move the after-party to the suites and the pool deck after that — totally allowed, just at conversational volume.

Can the wedding party get ready onsite?

Yes — that's one of the biggest reasons people pick the property. Six suites means six getting-ready spaces. Photographers love it.

Do you have a recommended planner or do we bring our own?

Either. We work with several local planners who know the property and the island. Many couples bring their own planner from out of town and we just collaborate.
